My quest to my first console system
GeneralI grew up in a household that placed gaming as the last priority. As a kid, I never had the “luxury” of playing console games, thus that meant I can’t use a controller to save my own life if it depended on it. I remember playing the game Time Splitter on the Playstation 2 with Kyler at his place, and boy was I dismal at it.
For the past few months I have acquired a few electronics, (in particular a 42 inch TV, a 5.1 surround sound system, in which I still need a toslink for, and finally a Mac Mini) and one thing that is missing, a console. After months of researching and deliberation I’ve concluded that the console of choice would be XBox 360, PS3, or the Wii. (Really? did I just say that?)
The Wii was eliminated in the first round of elimination the reason being: 480p video, no HD output, the games are mostly for kids, and the controllers are not precise.
Which lead to the question PS3 vs XBox 360.
While both are great system, HD contents, however the draw back with the XBox is that it has a HDDVD player, subscription based multiplayer system, and most of all their Kinect is not exact nor precise. Which lead me to examine the PS3, my first impression at the PS3 wasn’t great, I laughed and hated the move controllers, it looked stupid and ridiculous with that ball on top of it, but then I discovered Killzone 3 and the sharp shooter controller. Boy was I hooked, I might not be able to use a controller but I sure can handle myself real well with any type of weapon. As Karen Kim (from Kill Bill) once said: “I’m a f##king surgeon with this shotgun.” Which lead me into more in depth research with the console and the move controllers.
Few weeks later, I decided to purchase a PS3, now, the market price for it wasn’t cheap, so I decided to purchase the system used on Kijiji, I found a great ad, for 250 bucks, I can get a Brand New In Box 320GB PS3 slim with the sports bundle, which included the system, and the move controllers. (Retail value for 400 bucks, the person was selling it because they got two for Christmas) So I went home, hooked everything together and had a go with Killzone 3.
The conclusion:
It took me about 5 minutes to get to used to the controller as reloading the weapon, crouching, and switching weapons is a bit different in real life. But boy oh boy the move controller is precise. I can pick targets off across the map with ease, and most of all I can enjoy myself playing the game, rather than getting a headache with the controllers.
Good purchase, extremely satisfied, although I can’t wait to take the PS3 to work to play on the 100+ inch projection wall. Finally the PS3 did something the PC hasn’t done before.
